Summer Party Experience
After missing out on opportunities last spring, Iím working hard to get myself out during the summer. Last Saturday, I attended a summer get-together for my church group. We played volleyball and cooked out. Even though I felt nervous among a large group of people, I did have fun and got into some interesting conversations with new people. In fact, they seemed to enjoy hearing about my hearing loss community.
Playing volleyball was a new experience for me as well; I donít remember the last time I played, if ever. I was a bit nervous about getting hit in the head with the ball because of my $5000 hearing aids. As a result, I couldnít play as freely as others did; perhaps thatís one reason I never considered playing sports while growing up.
