There are times when it is difficult to hear co-workers in the work environment. Some people may speak softly in cubicles so others in a room can’t hear the conversations. I sometime have to ask co-workers to repeat the words or speak little louder.

I would like to know how others with hearing loss cope in this type of situation?

Hi Senthil. I know what you mean, although, I work as a secretary in a very small office (in my church). I am always asking people to repeat or simply putting a forefinger against the side of my ear with eyebrows up. Most of the church attendees know that I am hearing impaired. In fact we joke about the fact that confidentiality is no issue in our church... If the pastor needs to speak to someone in private... all he has to do is face the other way, and I won't hear! Kim Palmer

Hi Kim.

I thought that was cute about the pastor facing the other way so you won't hear. Anyway, I usually don't talk about my hearing loss to people at work unless they bring it up. My co-workers would obviously know since they can see my hearing aids. In the past when I wore behind-the-ear ones which are bigger, I would hide it having my hair long... yikes! I always felt uncomfortable if people see me wear hearing aid box over my ears.
