My hearing aids are half shell Danavox, and they are about 15 years old, so they are on their last leg. With my middle ear implant surgery coming up, I will be completely deaf in the implanted ear for two months, and I'm going to need a new aid for the other ear.

It's been so long since I've been up to date on the latest hearing aids, that I have no clue what brands and styles I should consider. There are so many these days, and a lot of different features. Any advice on how to go about searching for the right hearing aid for my loss? As of yesterday's testing, my left ear has a mild/moderate loss, and the right ear is moderate/profound.

Should I go with analog or digital?

I know, there are so many different types of hearing aids. I want to collect more information to put in this site about the latest brands and styles. I usually ask my audiologist which one they recommend for my hearing loss. I have been wearing Sonus in-the-canal digital hearing aids. I'm very happy with this one, and people won't see it much! The volume will adjust automatically in different background settings which is helpful.

I’ve been using digital hearing aids for over 10 years now, but these are very expensive. I got a special offer on the one I have... buy one aid, get one free. That was a good deal. I also get free batteries for 3 years.

How long would you wear the new aid? For temporary use, I would maybe consider analog ones that are least expensive. Actually, I been looking for these to use as back-up incase mine goes bad.

I'll keep you posted what I find out on the hearing aids.

Hey Mandy, check this out: http://www.siemens-hearing.com/hearing-aids/vibe

What do you think about this hearing aid? I like the style of this one. I just wonder how it can stay in your ears because it seems really small.

Buy one get one free!! That is an awesome deal! I currently have a Beltone S90 which is supposed to be a super power behind the ear aid. I have always wanted the ones that are less visable but was told by my audiologies they are not powerful enough digital is not loud enough either :?

Hi Tunisa,

It's good to see you here! :)

I haven't used Beltone hearing aids. As for the digital ones, my Audiologist told me that my hearing level is at the borderline to be qualified for this, whew! Anyway, I'm sure they will improve the technology in the near future... so you can wear ones that are less visible for your type of hearing loss.

So, how long have you been wearing the Beltone S90?

I have been using a Bernafon Vérité for almost two weeks now. I have the power dome tip on the P speaker and have been loving it. It can hit most frequencies with this set up, which is why I went with it. Also, I have it set to a moderate volume, so there is ample room for adjustment as time goes on.

So far, I have to give it props. And, the kicker, I got it at Costco for only $1299. By getting it there, I have free checkups/adjustments. 3 year warranty which they will actually give me a new one once if I accidentally lose it or damage it beyone repair. I also received about 40 batteries for it, they will replace the dome for it whenever I need for free and they gave me the thermal dryer for it as well.

Overall, I am very satisfied with not only the HA itself but Costco's service. The hearing aid design is really quite different and doesn't look like it would be comfortable at all, however it is and already as a first time HA wearing, just under two weeks and I don't even know it's there.
